Web design intern sought for Internet startup

600block.com is a Web 2.0 site for discovering Baltimore’s best restaurants, bars, food/drink specials, and more. The company is seeking a highly-motivated Web designer who wants internship experience crafting a hip, fun social media site for 20 and 30-somethings living in the city. This position provides college credit and valuable business and Web experience.What you’ll accomplish:

  • Design friendly, fun-to-use interfaces for at least three major areas of the site
  • Assist in developing exciting new features and layouts
  • Create promotional materials for marketing campaigns (and help spread the word)
  • Find fresh, engaging content like new hotspots and restaurant/bar specials

What you’ll learn:

  • Growing a Web site from brainstorm to design, code to launch
  • User-centered interface design that still looks beautiful
  • Standards-driven Web coding and best practices
  • Introduction to new technologies like Ruby on Rails

Requirements:

  • Very comfortable with Photoshop; previous experience with Web design
  • Basic-to-intermediate HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Nice to have: Illustrator and/or InDesign; any programming experience (PHP, etc.)
  • Positive attitude, focused, independent worker

This is a small company, which means they will involve you in everything from client pitches, to brainstorming sessions. Expectation is that interns will work 15 to 20 hours per week. Interested?
