Frederick News-Post seeks to hire page designer/copy editor

The Frederick News-Post has a Page Designer/Copy Editor opening. This person will be responsible for pagination of the newspaper as needed to include layout and design of stories, art work, photographs, editorial logos, headers, etc. Will be responsible for reading copy to find and correct errors in grammar, spelling, syntax, facts and clarity. Rewrites story leads and writes headlines for articles. Works under general supervision and refers unusual problems and situations to supervisor. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, Journalism, or related programs required. The ability to design vibrant, reader-friendly pages and strong copy editing skills are required. Must be able to operate a computer and have a thorough knowledge of word processing and pagination software, preferably Quark (or InDesign), Photoshop, and Illustrator. Must be familiar with AP Stylebook. A background in graphic arts is preferred, but not required. Normal working schedule will be Tuesday - Saturday, 2:30PM -11:30PM; however the ability to work a flexible schedule including weekend and holiday hours is required.
