The Gazette in Gaithersburg has opening for arts and entertainment writer

April 2, 2009

The Gazette, publisher of award-winning community weeklies in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., is seeking an experienced arts and entertainment writer to preview local music, visual arts, humanities and theater programs and events.

The writer will be responsible for submitting at least five stories a week for print and online on assigned topics and arranging for art and multimedia elements, including video for our Web site.

The writer must be able to write longer, more complex stories that require research, independent investigation and in-depth interviews. In addition, the skill to rapidly turnaround reviews and breaking arts news will be necessary as we move more deeply into “mobile journalism.” Some evening and weekend work is required.

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or communications, and have strong writing and reporting skills and at least two years of experience in the field.

The Gazette offers a competitive package of benefits, including health insurance plans, tuition reimbursement and vacation-personal days.

Send clips and salary requirements to Ellyn Wexler, The Gazette, 9030 Comprint Court, Gaithersburg 20877 or e-mail to editjobs@gazette.net. No calls, please. EOE.
