Independent studies
Independent studies are designed to let students focus intently on an area of interest. A student interested in undertaking an independent study should contact a faculty member to discuss his or her proposal.
A proposal for independent study should include:
- Specific topic to be studied
- List of readings and other research to be undertaken
- Description of the final project (e.g., 30-page paper, major Web site, etc.)
- Timeline for the project, including number of hours expected to be dedicated each week (note: for three credits, total time should be 120 hours)
Once an independent study proposal is approved, you will need to fill out this form.
Students majoring in Mass Communication are able to apply up to six credits of internships and independent study to their major (up to six additional credits can be applied to general electives).
