The York Daily Record/Sunday News is always looking for qualified copy editors. And while they don’t currently have a position open, they are hoping to bring in a few candidates for, at the very least, an informational interview for any upcoming openings.
Qualified candidates should have some newspaper experience, either through their college newspaper or an internship. Copy editors at the Daily Record/Sunday News are responsible for designing and laying out pages, editing local and wire copy, writing headlines and updating the Web site.

Job Fair scheduled at Online News Association conference Sept. 11

The Online News Association is going to be having a job fair on Thursday, Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Capital Hilton, Washington, D.C. Some of the recruiters that will be there include NPR, Gannett and Tribune Media Services.
The morning will start with short presentations from the recruiters about their companies and then interviews throughout the day.
ONA members can attend the job fair for free. Students can come for $25, while it’s $50 for professionals and others who are not ONA members. Students can also get greatly reduced rates to attend the entire conference, which runs through Sept. 13.

The Gazette, publisher of award-winning community weekly newspapers in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, is expanding its online coverage. We are seeking a web editor/designer for primarily weekend and evening posting duties.
Main responsibilities include copy editing, arranging and uploading stories and multimedia on multiple pages, some light coding and rewriting headlines. On occasion, this editor will help report and write breaking news stories and edit still and video images to accompany stories.
Applicants must have a track record that demonstrates the ability to work independently under deadline pressure, and have proficiency with Quark, basic HTML and Photoshop. A working knowledge of Flash, RSS and other web technology is a plus. Must be able to cover non-traditional hours and adjust schedule to meet demands of shifting news cycles.

Sister 2 Sister magazine in Takoma Park, Md., has an immediate need for a creative, detail-oriented, organized graphic designer with print publication experience and an eye for typography to create dynamic editorial pages for our monthly entertainment and lifestyle magazine. Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to meet deadlines. Position responsibilities include:
-Graphic layout
-Scanning and color correcting photos
-PDF workflow
-Creating design concepts for promotional materials
