National Journal Group, Washington’s leading online and print publisher of news and information on politics and policy, seeks ambitious, entrepreneurial individuals to join its ranks. NationalJournal.com is depended on by the people running the country for the most insightful political analysis and latest news from the Hill.

NationalJournal.com is currently accepting resumes for our fall interns to start ASAP. Interns will contribute to National Journal’s Earlybird, a daily news summary read regularly by Washington insiders, as well as create multimedia projects that complement our reporting. Prospective interns should be current students looking to earn course credit.

Interested candidates should have an interest in politics. Experience with audio and/or video editing, familiarity with Soundslides, and experience using a content management system to update blogs and related content are pluses.

All candidates must have:

  • Basic HTML skills
  • Ongoing education in journalism
  • Willingness to start workday as early as 6 a.m.
  • Knowledge of AP style

The University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking a nonpaid editorial intern to work 10-20 hours a week on its award-winning Web site (www.umm.edu). Our site gets more traffic (75,000 visitors a day or 2.25 million a month) than any other hospital or medical center Web site in the country. Job responsibilities include writing and editing Web site content, and other duties as directed by the Web site editor.

The ideal candidate is a communications major who has several years of writing/editing experience. Web site content development is a plus.

A new networking opportunity for students interested in magazine editing careers

Jess Blumberg, the associate editor at Baltimore magazine, is organizing Ed2010 networking events in Baltimore. Begun in New York City, Ed2010 is a group of magazine editors and editor-wannabes that hosts networking events, panel discussions and generally offers help to those in the magazine industry. Currently, there are 20 chapters around the country, and Blumberg just started a chapter in Baltimore.

Any student interested in a magazine editing career is welcome to attend the events, which will occur every 2-3 months at a bar or restaurant in town. The purpose will be to get to know others in the local magazine community and let aspiring editors get a chance to network. The National Journalism Center (NJC) is now accepting intern applicants for its Fall 2008 internship session. The NJC has provided free 12-week internships with Washington-area media outlets for 30 years. Aside from apprenticing with established Washington journalists, these internships include weekly seminars with speakers, many of whom are NJC alumni, supervision and instruction by the Academic Director. There is also a $1,000 per month scholarship available for accepted applicants.

Work Schedule: M-F 9-5; Hours per week: 40

Wage: $1000/month for 12 weeks
