The Cecil Whig is looking for an energetic reporter to cover local news. You’d be responsible for breaking news and would contribute to team-reported, in-depth special reports. We want someone who gets off on chasing the story, who’s eager to get to know the community, can engage readers with compelling storytelling and who sees the value in getting the story out as quickly as possible. We’ve recently rededicated ourselves to our Web site. For the first time, we have an editor whose prime responsibility is gathering stories and getting them out to our online readers — who are willing to pay to read us on the Web. Applicants with Web skills and experience are especially encouraged to apply. All our Whig reporters have a dedicated beat, but it’s a great place to build an array of clips and find your niche.

The Cecil Whig is a 17,000-circulation five-day daily. We offer a typical salary, insurance and a benefits package. Our office is in Elkton, Md., less than an hour’s drive from downtown Philadelphia and Baltimore. We sit at the top of the Chesapeake Bay, where boating and fishing are king. We’re also minutes from an enormous state park with tremendous hiking and biking trails. If you’re interested in joining our tight-knit staff, tell us why you are the best qualified person for this front-line job. Send a cover letter, resume and five of your best clips to:
